Three father-son combinations and Dinesh keep Zomi’s on track for title

-13 august, 2017

Another glorious victory day for VCC Zomi – this one at home on grass pitch with Olympia. Dinesh’s all-round show scripts thrilling win for VCC Zomi and of course with equal efforts given by teammates. Remarkable was that at the end of the match three father-son combinations were playing for the Zomi’s: George (13) & Lennaert van Aalst, Tobias (12) & Marc Nota and Cedric (9) and Richard de Lange.

VCC Zomi were lucky to play on grass pitch as 3rd team match was cancelled. Thanks to VCC ground staff for preparing and maintaining the pitch! The day was perfect with sun shining and most of the players were excited to play after their holiday break.

VCC Zomi won the toss and decided to bat. Our opening was bit shaky when we lost 2 wickets in the first three overs. Kees and Lennaert opened and struggled a bit with line and length. Kees got run out when tehre were just 2 runs on the board and then Vishal got bowled cheaply on 4runs. Dinesh and Lennaert continued with the start of a partnership, but then Lennaert got out on 6 runs. In between Dinesh was lucky to be dropped at mid-on. Later, Tobias (1 run) and Charu (3 runs) came after each other but could not succeed.  Marc Nota played some power shots (4 fours) and made 22 runs. He was looking good. Then captain Guus Beekhof put some boundaries through the covers but did not stay long and got out on 8 runs. He had a misunderstanding while running a close single with Dinesh and gave away his wicket. However, Dinesh kept going with the support of George (8 runs), Richard (1 run) and Collin (1 run not out) till the end. An outstanding performance of focus and discipline was shown by Dinesh making 89 runs for VCC.

VCC Zomi put a total of 174 runs to win. No doubt this was a challenging total for the Olympia at VCC home ground.

After a nice lunch (by Marc Nota) the sun was still shinning which was perfect for our opening youngsters Tobias and George who bowled outstanding in their 1st spell. Olympia opening batsman struggled with their line and length. Tobias got rid of opening batsman Eric who was caught outstandingly by Vishal at point. Then Charu and Vishal started their spell. Charu in his 2nd over got bowled out Noordhoek at 8 runs by an unbelievable swing delivery. VCC team was happy to get opponents openers but the 3rd and the 4th batsman Segaar and Hakstege started playing some power strokes and built up a good partnership making VCC panic. Captain Guus made some changes in the field and also brought in Nota to bowl from the other end. Vishal had finished his 4th over and till then both batsman were scoring good. Then Vishal’s 5th over he got out Segaar (26runs) who was caught behind outstandingly by Richard. In the same 5th over he bowled out new batsman for a duck.  On the other end Hakstege continued playing with his power strokes. Vishal in his 6th over got bowled out Hakstege (25 runs) and next new batsman in the 7th over finishing his spell. Vishal was tipped by Dinesh for his last 2 wickets. A much needed breakthrough for VCC. Olympia were 6 down, but the game was not over. 7th & 8th batsmen Lighthelm and Pruschen started looking good. Colin replaced Vishal but injured his finger while stopping a power straight shot by Frank. He discontinued to bowl but continued fielding with team spirit. Dinesh was given the task to bowl. But both batsman went on for great power strokes and the match seemd to move to a tense end. Olympia needed 34 runs in 5 overs. Guus then called in Charu to bowl his 2nd spell and changed Dinesh to bowl from the other end. Charu bowled out Lighthelm (24runs) by another outstanding fast delivery. In the same over Charu got new batsman bowled with the same pace. Captain’s change in plan worked out, but we still had to get rid of Pruschen who was looking tough and would have taken away the match from VCC. But he was also under pressure and got caught by Marc Nota at long off boundary. The tail was open and finally Dinesh finished with the last wicket. It was really an exciting match towards the end. It was a complete team effort. Guus experience captaincy, Richards excellent keeping, Dinesh outstanding batting, Charu & Vishal amazing bowling, Lennaert, Marc, Kees, Colin good fielding and not the less VCC youngster’s Tobias, George and Cedric (the latter substitute fielder for Kees who got injured) showed real discipline in bowling and fielding.

VCC Zomi celebrated the victory with Victoria and is now one win way from the champiosnship.
