U12 win Dutch Championships indoor cricket

U12 kampioenSuch is the strength of VCC U12 cricket this year that we were able to enter 2 teams into the prestigious Flamingo Indoor Tournament. Heats were played over 4 weekends with the top two teams qualifying for the finals in Amsterdam. The heats were very tough and VCC1 managed third place in their group, narrowly missing out on a trip to the finals. VCC2 finished second in their group and made it to the finals. On april 26 in Amsterdam VCC2 first had to play HCC, a very strong team that had beaten VCC1 twice in the heats. HCC  scored 76 runs  and VCC 77 off the eight overs. In this format the number of wickets also count to give a net run rate. Thanks to our 6 wickets versus their two wickets, VCC were clear winners.  Tobias Nota and Tanveer Khawaja took two wickets each which proved crucial. Tanveer was also top scorer with the bat along with George van Aalst. The team had to wait another 2 hours to play the final where VCC2 met Kampong, their main adversary from the heats, who beat the Dutch Lionesses. Kampong had not lost a game on the way to the finals. Kampong batted first with a reasonable score of 59, but for the loss of 6 wickets. George van Aalst took 3 wickets in his two overs. George and Tanveer then opened the batting and scored freely before retiring and letting Thijn le Rutte and Siddhant Agarwal see through the rest of the overs. In the end VCC scored 84 runs for no loss of wicket. A great win, where the whole team (George van Aalst, Tanveer Kawaja, Thijn le Rutte, Hidde Vrieze, Tobias Nota, Siddhant Agarwal and Elliot Hammond) contributed with the best bowling, fielding and batting we had seen all season.
