To further professionalise medical care around the first teams, Voorburg Cricket Club has signed a sponsorship agreement with ACS. The company owned by Barend and Inge Oosthuizen, originally from South Africa, will periodically monitor the cricket selections of the national champion and treat individual players if necessary. The company will act as VCC’s medical partner for the next three years and will be seen with its name on the back of all VCC shirts.

In cricket, where much is demanded of the physical constitution (e.g. fast bowlers who put a heavy strain on their backs), there is much demand for expert preventive and curative care. Professionals who are trained in recognising disorders that cause the body to malfunction, can intervene accordingly and add a lot in making and keeping selectors fit.

Barend Oosthuizen, owner of ACS: “As South Africans, we are of course familiar with the sport of cricket and the sometimes extreme strain of playing a lot of cricket. When we got to know VCC as a cricket club, we were impressed by the club’s efforts and ideas to keep taking steps towards further professionalisation. We are happy to contribute something to that with our medical knowledge and expertise. We hope to be able to raise our brand awareness through VCC while contributing to the further development of the sport of cricket, which is close to our hearts.”

Richard de Lange, chairman VCC: “We are very happy to have been able to secure ACS as a medical partner for VCC. In our opinion, medical care is still an unexplored area in top national cricket and we are convinced that ACS can change that for our selection. ACS will deal directly with the selection players, but non-selection players can also come to ACS for treatment.”
