Donna and Hidde excel in U17 win versus Hermes DVS

We were blessed with a bright and sunny day with an occasional breeze to keep us on our toes. After winning the toss against Hermes-Excelsior, Nirav decided to bat first. Opening the batting Tom and Shirshak got off to a very good start. After a couple of fiercy boundaries from Tom he departed for a score of 18. In came Danial at number 3 who looked to rotate the strike but departed for a score of 4. Little did we know that with absolutely no clouds in sight there was a storm brewing on the sidelines. Hidde’s onslaught consisted off a 50 off 18 balls, a total score of 79 at a strike rate off 246 and a lot of time spent fetching balls from outside the field. The rest is history. Haris soon joined the well set Shirshak who reached his 50 in due course as they looked to motor the innings further. Haris’s quick 28 and Shirshak’s anchoring role got us to a massive 240 on the board.

After a short break we were back in the field for the second innings. Immediately Donna took the game by a storm with a wicket in every of her 4 overs in her first spell opening the bowling. From the other end, Farhaan bowled tight lines and priced out a wicket for himself as Tom took a sharp catch at covers whilst conceding just 9 runs off his 3 overs. Little to say there was no short of excitement or fun for the VCC team on the field. Nirav eager to join the happenings on the field brought himself on for an over taking two quick wickets with a good catch from Cedric and another specky from Donna at point. Donna brought into the spotlight again for her 5th over was looking for her 5th wicket. Not long later she ripped the poles off and got her first 5er bagging 5 wickets for 22 runs off her 5 overs. Some sensational bowling from her was followed by Alejo ripping the middle stump to get the last wicket of the day. Before we knew Hermes-Excelsior were all out and another dominant win for VCC. An overall team effort and standout performances from Shirshak, Hidde and Donna were the highlight of the day.
