Double T20 wins for VCC (at VRA and VOC)

Michael Levitt

Voorburg CC 1 did good business on Ascension Day. In Rotterdam, both T20 matches against VRA (145-125) and VOC (145/7 – 148/2) were completed victoriously.

Against VRA, VCC, mainly through the efforts of Michael Levitt (59 off 32 balls) and Gavin Kaplan (27 off 22) and a wagging tail came to 145 runs. For the Amstelveners, former VCC player Shariz Ahmad took three wickets for 26 runs.

Viv Kingma and Mees van Vliet raced through the top order and in no time it was 51 runs for the loss of four wickets. Shariz Ahmad (31 runs) was preyed upon just in time by Michael Molenaar. Despite some more resistance in the tail end, the win went to VCC. VRA was all out for 125. Mees van Vliet and Viv Kingma took three wickets each. It was also noteworthy that all VRA batsmen were caught, with Sybrand Engelbrecht distinguishing himself with three catches.

VOC-VCC

Host VOC brought 145 runs into the books against VCC. Also in this match, Viv Kingma and Mees van Vliet cut through the top order like a hot knife, with Viv Kingma grabbing a beautiful catch on her own bowling. Jock McKenzie (who was missed on 1) remained unbeaten for VOC with 59 runs off 46 balls. In the closing stages of the innings, Jelte Schoonheim stirred with 27 not out off fifteen balls. Viv Kingma now took three wickets for 16 runs and Floris de Lange, who did an excellent job accommodating the departure of legspinners Boissevain and Ahmad, 2-26.

Once again, it was Michael Levitt who led the runchase for VCC. Nehaan Gigani took a lot of risk, was missed on 0 and 10 and then capitulated after a smooth 25 (31/1/4.3). Levitt started quietly for his part, giving away a minute catch on 17, but remained “in control” and, with 59 not out off 45 balls, laid the foundation for the second victory on this sunny Ascension Day 2024. Kaplan and Engelbrecht contributed with 29 runs and 31 not out, respectively.
