HBS routinely past VCC in attractive regional derby

Noah Croes

In the cricket weekend, of The Hague’s top clubs, only HBS managed to win, and that from regional rival Voorburg CC. HBS batted first and carefully built an innings. Halfway through the innings, VCC must not have been very impressed – HBS was just over 100 at the time – but because the Hague batsmen had wickets in their hands, they were able to accelerate in the second half of the innings. A total of 275 runs was the end result. Considering VCC’s reply – 188 runs – that was more than enough.

On the Voorburg side, Patient Charumbira came off the field with the best figures (2-46), while Wesley Barresi (71) and Kyle Klein (53) were important for the Crows. For VCC, Gavin Kaplan (62) and Noah Croes (66) had a strong partnership of 85 runs for the fourth wicket, but when they went out, VCC was nowhere near the high HBS total. Rossouw and Kyle Klein each took three wickets for HBS while Kyle’s injured brother, VCC’s Ryan, still had to watch.

HCC took a stab at VRA, being bowled out for 181 all out (Hidde Overdijk 4-44). HCC saw Josh Brown make 35 runs, but otherwise failed collectively and was bowled out for 113 all out (Leon Turmaine four wickets).

Top Class standings as of May 17: Hermes DVS 5-10, Kampong 5-8; VCC, VRA 5-6; HCC, HBS, Punjab 5-4; Excelsior, Sparta, VOC 5-2.
