Dutch cricket has been on the rise in quality for several years; not only in the men’s side, but certainly also in the women’s side.
Those who had bothered to visit Quick – VCC on August 31 saw a high-quality match with a total of 573 runs.
VCC won by 67 runs. Quick won the toss and sent in VCC.
From ball one, Babette de Leede and Iris Zwilling took control of the Hague bowling.
The Voorburg openers combined to hit 33 fours.
It wasn’t until 154 that the first wicket fell, De Leede for 82 off 55 balls.
Iris Zwilling went on and surpassed that partnership even more with Rosalie Lawrence, who played the best innings of her still tender career.
Her first half-century became a generous one: 72 not out in a partnership of 158 runs for the second wicket.
Iris Zwilling registered a nail-biting career-best 141!
VCC closed on 320 runs after forty overs.
Quick had a great start with an excellent innings by Annemijn Thomson (78 off 63 balls).
Together with Esther Corder (32) she made eighty runs for the second wicket.
However, when the usually hard-hitting international Robine Rijke was caught brilliantly off Eva Lynch on her own bowling, Quick’s chances of coming alongside were minimal.
Frédérique Overdijk (47 not out) and Luisa Ekelmans (58 not out) made a valiant effort, which was stranded at 253/6.
Internationals Iris Zwilling and Eva Lynch took three wickets each for VCC.
VCC must win again from Quick on Sunday, September 1 (at home) at noon to make the final. Great photo: Iris Zwilling made a career-best 141!
