We recently learned to our dismay that Ida Insinger, former member of VCC, passed away at the age of only 55. Ida lived as a child on Torenvalklaan in Leidschendam, which is adjacent to Koekoeklaan. Her father had died young and she often visited the De Leede family. She became friends with Jurriaan Lochtenberg and Mark de Leede and, as a spontaneous and tough girl, was “one of the guys. Since the cricket families Vroom, Nossbaum, Boerstra, Eikelenboom and De Leede lived nearby, it was obvious that she would give it a try. She did, and with success: in 1983 we find her in a creditable fourth place in batting. A year later she also took up bowling and that too she did very well, witness her figures of 7-96. Personally, Ida was unfortunately far from happy. Due to a rare syndrome, her father and three brothers Willem, Frits and Frank died at a young age. Ida was also struck several times by the same disease. It marks her strength, positivity, and zest for life that she remained optimistic and energetic despite these major setbacks. Returning from a vacation earlier this year, she felt unwell. At the end of October, it turned out that Ida was once again afflicted with a form of cancer. On November 1, she passed away.
