Opening of cricket season in the The Hague region now called Ponting Wines T20 Cup After two other namesakes, this year’s tournament will be named the Ponting Wines T20 Cup for the first time. Indeed, named after the wines to which the former captain of the Australian cricket team gave his name. A wonderful combination that came about in a special way.
Ben Lengyel and Scott Edmeades are two “islanders” (Australia and New Zealand respectively) who ended up in the Netherlands via detours. There they started their company 2islandwines (www.2islandwines.nl), and recently managed to obtain the exclusive dealership for continental Europe for Ponting Wines. A collaboration between one of Australia’s most celebrated cricketers, Ricky Ponting and Ben Riggs, an award-winning Australian winemaker known for uncompromising high quality wines. Both masters of their craft. No wonder Ben and Scott are immensely proud to represent this premium brand in the Netherlands. And to promote Ponting wines in the Netherlands, a partnership with a leading cricket club seemed obvious. In the middle of winter, an appointment was tentatively made in Voorburg. This went to the staisfaction of both sides and soon all sorts of plans were developed. And so the Ponting Wines T20 Cup was born.
On Sunday, April 16, the Ponting Wines T20 Cup will be played for the first time. Traditionally, HBS, HCC, Quick and VCC participate. All four clubs will be keen to enter the cricket league season with a good feeling. The draw for the Ponting Wines T20 Cup produced some interesting matches. At 11 a.m., two semifinals will be played. On the main field, home club VCC takes on Quick, while on the second field HBS and HCC battle for the second final spot. That final will then be played at 3 p.m. on the main field. Around 6:30 p.m., the winner of the first Ponting Wines Cup is expected to be announced. The 10th in a row and if it is up to VCC and Ponting Wines, many more will follow.
