The match against Groen-Geel began in good spirits. GG won the toss and decided to bat. The first wicket fell quickly (run-out on Eva’s bowling), and subsequent wickets continued to fall as well. Another wicket also fell in Eva’s second over, this time the bills did not stay down without someone else’s help. Thanks to the steady hands of Julia, Donna was able to put Jos’ wicket to her name. After a nice smooth change, the fourth wicket fell 3 balls later, a treacherous ball from Sarah was shot into the air and Iris got under it in time. There was some very economical bowling by Grace (5/0-2) among others, after which it was Sarah again who made off with the wicket, this time courtesy of the hands of Carlijn. The last wicket on the last ball of the innings claimed Snehal. Thanks to sharp fielding and economical bowling, GG walked off the field with a score of 66/6 after 20.
Carlijn and Iris opened the batting. There was nice batting and a good partnership built that unfortunately still fell with Iris’ wicket. Thanks in part to her 17 runs off just 12 balls, only 35 more runs needed to be scored by Carlijn and Eva. Eva started to bat and Carlijn turned an open to close, after just over 3 overs the winning runs were scored, Carlijn on 22* and Eva on 17*. After a tasty lunch and some snacks, the day ended pleasantly, and the final honorable mention goes to Fleur, who in addition to this report also made a sickening edit on Instagram (@vccdames).
