At the end of the season there was plenty of evaluation, within the board, but also with players and coaches. This has led to a number of new insights and with that a number of new faces will join the VCC board next year.
After Tom Archer was appointed Head of Cricket some weeks ago, there was a vacancy as youth chairman. We are pleased to announce that Lailesh Ostwal will fill the role of youth chairman effective immediately. Lailesh has two sons playing for VCC, Pranav (U13) and Sohan (U17). He will be supported in his new role by the youth committee which will further consist of two age coordinators. We are still looking for someone for the (U9, U11) and Nick Davies will act as (U13, U15, U17)-coordinator. Lailesh commented, “As the youth chair of our club, I aim to act as the grease in the operational chain, working closely with coaches and team managers.Facilitating smooth operations and allowing others to dedicate their focus solely on player development.”
In addition, Johan Polet will step down from his role as secretary of the board after five years at the spring ALV. Johan has been the memory and legal conscience for a long period of time with all the developments we have gone through in recent years. He has played an important role in steering those developments (indoor hall, grass wicket). The club should be very happy that Johan has been willing to do that, and for specific legal help he will fortunately remain available in the background. Johan will be inducting his successor on the board in the coming period. We have found that successor in the person of Josje Mosies. Through her children Branko (U13) and Tristan (U11) Josje has already been very involved with VCC in recent years as team manager. Besides her duties as secretary, she will help us to further improve our internal communication. Josje when asked: ” As the new secretary of our beautiful club, in addition to the usual secretarial tasks, I want to work towards even more involvement and transparency in our communication, so that all members feel heard and connected.”
Finally, we have also noticed that with the growing membership, also among the seniors, it is desirable to also have the lower teams represented on the board. This is now a large, diverse group of members and it is important that their voices are heard in considerations we make on the board. We are very pleased that Ahsan Siddique (player VCC 5) is willing to take on this role. He will work closely with Floris de Lange, the match secretary and Tom Archer as Head of Cricket. Ahsan commented, “I very much believe that the sum of the parts is more than the whole, and that is why I would be delighted to dedicate myself to the interests of the more recreational teams, then VCC will definitely be fine!”
The final change is that Julia Corder is stepping down from her duties as bar commissioner. Currently, a committee including Maarten le Noble, Martin Oosterheert, and Eva Peek is looking into how we can implement a new bar concept so that we can also take a nice step forward in terms of hospitality. Over the years, the role of bar commissioner has always been immensely challenging and Julia has shown her best side there as a youngster. A new job and the fact that she lives in Amsterdam have made her decide to resign her duties on the board. Consideration is being given to whether it is necessary to refill this role on the board or whether a different set-up might be chosen.
The VCC board looks forward to making it another brilliant 2025 cricket season in this new format!
