VCC 1 plays sloppy against Excelsior

Surprisingly, VCC 1 left the points in Schiedam. Weak bowling resulted in an ultimately unachievable 311, despite good innings from Cedric de Lange and Gavin Kaplan.

After forty overs, first-batting Excelsior had just over 200 runs, thanks mostly to 95 runs from Van Tonder. Brett Hampton almost choked on the huge number of half volleys that were presented to him. He took full advantage with nine (!) sixes and 113 runs in just 55 balls. These fireworks extended the Schiedam score by over a hundred runs in the final ten overs. Usman Malik stood tall in the attack with 2-41 and a brilliant run out.

Despite a fantastic start by Cedric de Lange (47) and Gavin Kaplan (76), VCC eventually failed to match Excelsior’s high score. Noah Croes’ 40 runs and Tom de Leede’s 27 did not change the result.

Top Class standings: Kampong 13-21; HCC, Punjab 13-16; Hermes DVS 13-15; Voorburg CC and VRA 13-14; HBS 13-11; Excelsior, VOC 13-9; Sparta 13-5. In the big league, Quick is in third place behind ACC and Bloemendaal.
