VCC 1 to third place through win over ACC

VCC was not really troubled by straggler ACC. In Amstelveen, it was 191-140.

ACC was an easy opponent on paper (scoreless), but VCC was struggling with injuries, and danger of underestimation lurked anyway.

Given the weather forecast, it was obvious that the team that won the toss would field. VCC opener Michael Levitt started quietly, but was caught after only 16 runs. A partnership of 58 for the second wicket (Cedric de Lange 29) took VCC to 82/2.

With 64 runs, Gavin Kaplan was once again the backbone of the VCC innings. There were also contributions from Noah Croes (28) and Michael Molenaar (27). Heavy rain led to interruptions and shortening of the match. VCC was able to add a few more runs in the closing stages of the innings: 191/9 in the forty available overs was the final score.

Innings ACC

The target was set for ACC at 203 runs in forty overs. VCC had a dream start when it caught Ben van der Merwe as early as the second ball. Except for Raza (27) and Izhaan Sayed (44), the Amstelveen batsmen had little to contribute. The chase for 191 Voorburg runs stalled at 140. VCC’s Mees van Vliet (3-23) was even surpassed in bowling figures by Gavin Kaplan (3-12).

HBS wins, HCC loses

HBS saw Sparta make 197 runs (Julian de Mey 3-31), but only had to reach 193 themselves due to rain rules. The Hague native made those runs at a rapid pace, thanks mainly to Lehan Botha and Tayo Walbrugh, who both put up half-centuries.

HCC owed it to a resisting tail at a score of 117/9 to put 148 runs in the books. None of the batsmen made more than 22 runs; Saqib Zulfiqar took 4-39. In just 23.3 overs, Punjab raced to 150/4 thanks to attacking batsman Jonathan Vandiar, who struck four fours and six sixes in his unbeaten 56.
