On Saturday, VCC let Kampong take the cheese off its back. The topper was flimsy on paper due to the absence of five internationals – three by VCC and two by Kampong – but it still turned into a spectacular game. In the shortened match, VCC made 156 runs for the loss of seven wickets (Cedric de Lange 40, Ryan Klein 34, Tom de Leede 27). The routine of Excelsior’s Lorenzo Ingram (57 not out) had to come into play to put Kampong over the line on the last ball of the match.
On Whit Monday, VCC recovered against Sparta, who were all out for 133. Remarkably, it was Usman Malik and Floris de Lange – who often play in the second eleven – who came off the field with the best bowling figures (Malik four wickets for 16 runs, De Lange 3-6). Usman took the wickets of top batsmen Klesse and Scheepers, who both went for zero. Cedric de Lange (51) led the Voorburg runchase before Gavin Kaplan finished it off with 39 not out.
Top Class standings: Kampong 10-15; Hermes DVS 10-13; Voorburg CC, HCC, Punjab-Ghausia 10-12; VRA 10-10; HBS 10-9; VOC, Excelsior 10-7; Sparta 10-3.
