Match Report: VCC 2 vs. Red & White 06/05/2023
VCC 2 faced off against Rood & Wit this week, looking to bounce back after three consecutive losses. Losing the toss (surprise 0/4 so far, nice skip), VCC 2 were asked to bowl first. Sajjad and George started well, and Sajjad took the first wicket for VCC in his fourth over. After a good second-wicket partnership between two overseas players from Rood & Wit, VCC fought back well, reducing their opponents from 116-1 to 169-8. Tom’s spell of 26-3 in 7 overs, along with Flo’s 3 wickets, helped limit Red & White to a total of 207, which seemed achievable.
In reply, after a fiery lunch from Nehaan (good thing that Jakes was not around today), Red & White’s bowlers started strongly, reducing VCC to 39-4 in no time. Tom and Flo showed some resistance, but wickets continued to tumble, and VCC was eventually bowled out for just 70. It was a challenging match against a good team, but Tom’s outstanding spell was a bright spot for VCC. The bowling and fielding improves each week but to compete on this level we need to start scoring runs, let’s work hard in training to make sure we improve this and are ready for the upcoming weeks!
