In the second round of the Top League competition, VCC defeated VOC. VCC put up a highly competitive 328/8 thanks to Bas de Leede (83 runs), Gavin Kaplan (70) and Cedric de Lange (56). Despite resistance from Scott Janett (83), VOC did not come close to the Voorburg monster score: 328-197. Debutant Peter Hatzoglou took six wickets for VCC.
At bat, VCC had productive partnerships for the second, third, fourth and fifth wickets: 59, 88, 65 and 73 runs respectively. Michael Levitt (42) was in form, but a brilliant fielding move by Tim de Kok cost him his wicket. Bas de Leede, normally active as a professional in England, was able to play two games before he has international obligations with the Dutch national team next week.
Defending the Voorburg total, Viv Kingma quickly charged both openers. However, a great partnership for the third wicket took VOC to 144. It was broken by legspinner Peter Hatzoglou, who previously played as a professional in the Big Bash League in Australia and the Vitality Blast and The Hundred in England. Hatzoglou took 6-35 in ten overs.
VRA (win over reigning national champion Punjab-Ghausia), Kampong, Hermes DVS and VCC share the lead in the Top Class with four points each from two games.
