VCC not in last four in European cricket tournament

VCC failed to reach the final day of the European Cricket League. In the rain-soaked tournament, VCC played a large number of ultra-short matches of five overs per innings.

In the group stage during the week of March 10, all matches were rained out. VCC still managed to qualify for the final week starting March 17 through a kind of penalty series. A win over Germany’s Darmstadt was followed by two losses, against Zurich and Rome. On Thursday afternoon, Farmers (Jersey) was defeated on the penultimate ball of the match.

Denmark’s Skanderborg then made 72 runs; VCC could “only” match 55. A handsome score under normal circumstances, but not enough on the small Cartama field in southern Spain. Newcomer Udit Nashier bowled fantastically with three wickets for nine runs.

In the match against England’s Hornchurch, Cedric de Lange was on a good run, but it started raining again. VCC was unable to qualify for the last four. Still, the Voorburgers can look back on a successful tournament in which smart bowling, tactical fielding and power-hitting were the keys to success.

On Sunday, April 27, the regular cricket league begins in the Netherlands – not with thirty balls per team, but a factor of ten more. VCC will then meet Sparta on the Bermweg in Capelle.

The other Hague top class players, HCC and HBS, host Hermes DVS and Punjab, respectively. In the big league, Quick starts with an away game at VVV in Amsterdam.
