VCC keeps connection with the top of the Top Class through win over Excelsior ’20. After 186/8, Excelsior still managed 255 runs, thanks mainly to Antum Naqvi (121 runs) and resistance at the tail from Jason Ralston (28). On the Voorburg side, Patient Charumbira and Mees van Vliet took three wickets each. HCC – HBS was won by HBS with 52 runs difference.
With Cedric de Lange (68 runs) and Gavin Kaplan (102) as great openers, VCC seemed to be on a roll for a long time. The two batsmen in form made as many as 168 runs for the first wicket. However, three wickets in a row – a hat-trick to Leg Before Wickets – ensured that Excelsior could cherish a glimmer of hope.
Experienced substitute Usman Malik – VCC was missing four internationals because of the Orange’s match against Scotland – dashed those hopes with an important innings of 19 runs.
The Hague derby between HCC and HBS ended in a win for the ‘Crows,’ who made 285 runs (Botha 119, Walbrugh 93 not out) and saw the ‘Crown Lions’ stranded on 233 (Gorlee 79, Barresi four wickets).
Top Class standings: Hermes DVS 4-8, Kampong and VCC 4-6, VRA, HCC and HBS 4-4, Punjab, VOC, Sparta, Excelsior 4-2.
