VCC starts with convincing victory.

This year the competition starts with T20 matches and the regular 50 over competition starts later in the season. Bloemendaal was our first opponent last Sunday. We had flown in Willie Diepeveen from Australia especially to field a complete team. Well complete ??… During the warming up we suddenly realized coach Bronson Meehan was missing. The last we knew about Bronson was that he had gone to the toilet in the dressing room (“That coffee is going straight through me!”). When we discovered that Bins was on the field with the key of the dressing room the riddle was rapidly solved and Bronson could be rescued just in time before causing  permanent damage to the facilities. We started with a slight delay due to a wet pitch and after winning the toss decided to field first. This turned out to be the right choice. Our bowlers restricted the Bloemendaal batsmen hence the score of 13 for 2 wickets after 6 overs. Bronson Meehan took 2 wickets (2 for 7 in 3). Viv Kingma (1 v. 9 in 4), Philip Kingma (1 for 2 in 2) and Campbell Thomas (1 for 11 in 2.5) took each 1 wicket. VCC’s man of the inning was Steffen Mulder, who took an astonishing   5 wickets in his 4 over-spell, all of them bowled. He took 2 wickets for 11 runs in his first two overs and followed that with a double wicket maiden and a wicket maiden. (5 for 11 in 4). Bloemendaal finished 47 all out in 16.5 overs. Overtaking this total shouldn’t be a problem, even though in the not so distant past VCC has had trouble chasing modest totals at Bloemendaal before. No surprises this time though. The VCC batsmen did the job in only 7.5 overs. Josh Lensen, who batted aggressively, rode his luck and stayed not out (19 runs) and Gijs Bins (18 not out) secured our victory  with a stylish 6 over mid off. Amazingly Bloemendaal took revanche with a victory over Kampong later that day. Kampong 81 for 8 20, Bloemendaal 82 for 5 in 17.5. Saturday May 5th VCC will be playing two more T20 matches at their home ground de Groene Zoom in Leidschendam. They will be taking on Top league team ACC (1.30 pm) and Kampong (4.30 pm) who play in the same league as VCC, in what promises to be two more cracking matches. So be sure to be there and support our men in blue! Entrance is free!
