VCC U12 ‘TOP’ team starts their campaign with a win v HCC

140624 jamieson batting The U12 top competition commenced last Sunday with a home game against HCC.  Under the rules of this competition there is no need a for a batter to retire when reaching 30 runs and bowlers can also bowl more overs.  We expected big scores and a long game, however the opposite was the case. Captain Aryan lost the toss and HCC elected to bat first.  Our bowling was outstanding, particularly Aarav who finished with the very impressive figures of 4 wickets for just 7 runs.  Aarav just missed a hat-trick by a very slim margin when I turned down an LBW appeal for a ball just sliding down leg.  Hard to explain to 12 year old that the benefit of the doubt has to go to the batter in such situations.  Aryan and James also bowled well to finish with the same figures of 1 for 12.  Some great catching (2 for Floriaan and 1 for Thomas) and fielding (direct hit by Jamie) helped us to restrict HCC to be all out for only 63 runs.  The HCC coach approached me to say that he was very impressed with the skills and determination of our team. Floriaan (13) and Jamieson (13) got us to 36 runs before a great fightback from HCC resulted in us losing a number of quick wickets in succession to be 54 for 4 before Thomas and Sid steadied the ship to see us pass the score off HCC in the 10th over.
