VCC 139/7 against ACC 107/7
The weather forecast was not too good. Heavy showers were forecasted for Amstelveen where our U15 Blue team opened the season against ACC. When we left Voorburg it was still dry but on our way to Amstelveen it started raining already. Fortunately it stopped once we reached Amstelveen and rain clouds were replaced by sunshine. Only disadvantage, the field was very wet which made it almost impossible to hit a boundary.
VCC started batting and struggled with the condition of the pitch. Although the first batters had some powerful shots the ball did not roll over the field. Taking more risk was not a good choice as it resulted in an early dismissal of our opening batters. Our middle order (Philip, Miraj and Rosalie) did a great job and managed to set a decent score. In the end we struggled a bit to higher the score but finally we did set a target of 140.
Key would be to minimize the extras in the second inning and try to get ACC all-out. Stefan managed to put the batters immediately under pressure with 2 maiden overs and the first bowled wicket. The second wicket illustrated the team performance of today. Excellent fielding of the team resulted in a run out. Although the number of extras did increase quite a lot, the team kept focused. With amongst others a beautiful catch of Atharva and perfect stumping by our wicketkeeper Rosalie the team kept the pressure on ACC. Finally it was up to Miraj to finish it off with his second wicket.
Although the first win was a real team effort, it might be said that (wo)man of the match was Rosalie who did give a real masterclass batting today!
Special thanks to Stef, our excellent coach of the day, and Vinay who joined so we had just enough (8) players to play.
