Voorburg CC won T20 tournament it organised themselves. In the traditional season opening in the Hague region, the Voorburg players – who first beat HCC – convincingly settled in the final with HBS, which had narrowly beaten Quick.
Despite a missed catch and a missed run-out opportunity in the first over, Viv Kingma took a wicket in the first over of the final. VCC’s fielding was not flawless, yet HBS did not reach more than 123 runs, with Julian de Meij (28) as the top scorer. Mees van Vliet took two wickets for 29 runs. Michael Levitt and Cedric de Lange (32) then laid down a formidable opening: 86/1 after 8.5 overs. The win could no longer elude VCC and, thanks to Levitt’s brilliant 67 not out off 34 balls, it did not happen.
In the morning, VCC had already beaten HCC 116-102. For VCC, Ryan Klein made 28 runs. For the Hagenaars, Boris Gorlee became top scorer with 32 runs. Good bowling figures for Viv Kingma (2-11), Stijn de Leede (2-12) and Mees van Vliet (2-15). Cedric de Lange picked up four catches behind the wicket.
The clash of neighbours between Quick and HBS was not decided in favor of the ‘Kraaien’ until the very last ball of the match. Quick made 123 runs thanks to 36-year-old Lesley Stokkers (88 not out). Kyle Klein bowled strongly, 0-7 in two overs, and then led his team into the final over as a batsman thanks to an amazing 53 not out off 25 balls. The last ball of the game had to be hit out of the field for six runs for the win and a final spot. Martijn Scholte (54 not out) also played a handsome innings.
