VCC women grab the ‘double’!

After capturing the country championship in the 40-over competition, the women of Voorburg CC also took the title in the short game T20. A successful final day for women’s cricket at Excelsior ’20 in Schiedam saw Red and White defeated 109-90.

Red and White cleverly held VCC to 109 runs and it was thanks to good innings from Eva Lynch (46 not out) and Annemijn van Beuge (18) that VCC got above 100 at all. Heather Siegers took two wickets for the Haarlemers.

Thanks to the same Heather Siegers (22 runs), Red and White batting had a smooth start. When she was out and Vera Paree suffered a nasty hamstring injury, however, the other Haarlem batters were unable to keep up the pace. VCC’s bowling and fielding was well done and VCC showed it had a broad base of good players. Bowl star Sarah Asmussen took three wickets. With this, like last year, VCC had a chance to win both titles.
