Before heading into the match we knew from credible sources that the wicket was uneven and hence it was a great toss to win. Our team is heavily reliant on our battery of spinners with an accurate new ball bowling pair to set it up.
After putting the opposition in we wanted to choke them and get them cheaply. Naman and Aarjav were accurate to start with the ball. New recruit Anand delivered a crucial blow as Rohit Khanna took an absolute blinder behind the wicket. Anand followed up with a deadly inswinger to get their dependable middle order batter. With a clear plan to choke them, Jenagan gave nothing away and was extremely accurate and at times too hot to handle. He bowled 8 overs on the trot and gave a little over 2 runs per over. Vishal from the other end bowled well without much luck. We were sharp in the field and effected two crucial runouts by combining well. The lethal blow was delivered by Amit Singh who ran through the middle order batting by bagging 4 wickets. We bowled them out for 157.
As we have seen in many instances, low scoring matches can be tricky specially on an uneven track. Our approach was cautious as we wanted to see off the new ball without losing wickets. Aarjav had to retire as he suffered a knee injury. Jenagan steadied the ship along with Sumit but sadly got done with a ball that kept low. With the match delicately poised, Rohit Khanna and Sumit continued to play watchfully. After getting comfortable, shots started flowing out of Rohit’s bat while Sumit continued to play old school dogged cricket of sealing up one end. As the game progressed even Sumit started to play a few shots and team VCC4 got to 158 in the 31st over by losing just one wicket. This was a comprehensive victory where we controlled the game from ball 1 all the way till the end. All in all it was a satisfying outing for VCC4.
