Due to the Corona virus the KNCB has organised the first stage of the T20 league in regional groups again. Hence, VCC found itself back in the familiar group with Quick, HBS en HCC. The first match on July 31n was an away match vs “de Haantjes”. Due to holidays, injuries and the Feast of the Sacrifice three players from VCC 2 got an opportunity to make their debut in VCC 1: Laurens Boissevain, Nirav Kularni (only 15) and Ifthikar Ahmad, who transferred this year from Almere where the cricket club was liquidated.
Quick -also with some substitutes due to holidays etc.- won the toss and decided to bat first. Quick started solidly and with 43-1 after 5 overs and 46-2 after 10 overs a decent score seemed to be possible if the remaining batsmen would be able to accelerate.
Then the Ifthikar Ahmad show started and both in his second over and third over he took two wickets, finishing his bowling innings with another wicket in his fourth, ending with the beautiful figures of 21 for 5 in 4 overs. VCC excelled with good agressive fielding and only Daan Vierling managed to get some runs on the board (28) before being caught by Ahmad off the bowling of Viv Kingma. Quick was 86 all out after 19.1 overs.
Captain Bas de Leede en Righardt Pieterse opened the VCC batting innings and batted concentrated and sensibly. In less than 11 overs the target was reached without the loss of a wicket (De Leede 42 not out, Pieterse 34 not out). A simple victory, next week VCC will play home versus HCC that lost in the first round versus HBS, where TobiasVisee once more showed his class (139 not out!).
