HMS 1 – VCC 2 (20. May 2018)

HMS 1 – VCC 2 (20. May 2018)

Sunday 20th of May was the 3rd league match for VCC 2 playing away against HMS.

It was a small football sized ground with the relative short boundaries, especially on the squares.

VCC captain won the toss and elected to bat first by keeping in mind the excellent batting conditions and shorted boundaries

VCC batsman Abbas Zaidi and Adwit started off decently, going for a run rate of 5 an over, but HMS bowlers looked decent and were aware of the conditions well. Adwit got out when score was 21 in the 5th over with his personal score of 8 and Aryan to follow without scoring in the 7 over. Abbas kept playing positively and was joined in by Harold who tried to stabilize the innings. Abbas was caught at the long on a relatively normal ball when the score was 63 in the 17 over with Atif Aziz, Ahsan and Sono to follow cheaply with VCC were 70 for 5 in the 24th over.

Faisal and Floris added valuable runs and consumed overs to occupy the crease. VCC was eventually bowled out 112 runs in the 37.1 overs giving a minor total to chase.

VCC started with the new ball bowlers Atif Zaka and Faisal. There was a bit of movement but VCC bowlers didn’t gave easy runs. HMS to be innovative to get some score. HMS lost their first wicket at 22 when Panneerselvam got out while pulling the ball and was well caught by Sono on the bowling of Atif Zaka. S Kakar also followed and was clean bowled by Atif Zaka with the score was 27 for 2.

Ramesh was trapped LBW on the bowling of Atif Zaka with the personal score of 1 and left HMS at 38 for 3. On the other hand Faisal was also maintaining his line and length and swinging the ball both ways and was finally rewarded for his persistent bowling. At this point HMS was really under pressure and trying to save the wickets with VCC bowlers on top. G.Singh and S Donga survived the spell of remaining bowlers and survived the close calls to complete the successful chase.

VCC’s batsmen will be looking to play longer innings in the games ahead and score more runs individually after being well set with bowlers to be more discipline with extras which can make a big difference.

Atif Zaka
