Using the old cricketer's saying "Tails never fails", this week's captain Freddie Price won the toss and decided to field first on a beautiful morning in Haarlem.
The R&W innings began with a run out from the very first ball, and ended with a wicket on the last ball
Jan (16) and Sam (13) got the innings off to a strong start, with Jan hitting the only six of the day. Alyan was very unlucky to be caught on the boundary from his first ball, but recovered strongly to make 27, including five 4s. Matthijs (9), Stijn (6) and Thomas (7) were rock-solid in the middle order, and were all unlucky to see some strong attacking shots find the fielders rather than the gaps. Alfie hit his first ball for four, and went on to make a confident 16, and then Freddie played a captain’s knock of 18. Since we were playing a 9-a-side game with only eight players, two of our batsman were allowed to face an extra over, and our left-handers returned to the crease, Jan hitting 11 from his six balls and Alyan hitting 8.
Was this enough ? The usual suspense followed as the scorers did their sums, before a big cheer signalled that VCC Under 10(2) had won again
