Noah Croes named new captain of VCC 1

Voorburg Cricket Club is excited to announce today the appointment of Noah Croes as the new captain of VCC 1. This appointment marks a significant milestone in his career at VCC, which began when he joined the team in 2019.

Noah first demonstrated his considerable talent in 2019 when the team returned to the Topklasse. Over 16 matches that season, he amassed a remarkable 522 runs at an average of nearly 35, including a highest score of 107. His prowess as a wicketkeeper was equally impressive, with 17 catches and 3 stumpings. Last year, Noah played a pivotal role in VCC’s championship victory, scoring 431 runs at an average of 33 and securing 18 catches along with 7 stumpings. His performances quickly attracted the attention of the Dutch national team selectors, leading to his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in July and a T20 International debut on the recent tour to Nepal.

Expressing his excitement about his new role, Noah said, “It’s a privilege to represent VCC in this leadership capacity. Since joining in 2019, the club welcomed me with open arms, and now, leading our 1st XI side five years later, is an incredible honour and very special. I am eagerly looking forward to the start of the season and to playing alongside some exceptional cricketers but, more importantly, great people. I know I have the full support of the VCC community and am excited about the next chapter.”

VCC is confident that Noah’s extensive experience and passion for cricket will propel the club to new heights in the upcoming season. His exposure to international cricket and deep understanding of the club’s dynamics underscore the excitement surrounding his appointment.

Sybrand Engelbrecht, the outgoing captain, has been instrumental in shaping the character and success of VCC in recent years. As he steps down, the club and its members express their profound gratitude for his dedication and the strong foundation he has established. Sybrand’s leadership, centered on core values and team cohesion, has left a lasting impact on the club.

In a heartfelt message, Sybrand conveyed his best wishes to the team and to Noah, his successor. He stated, “As most of you now know, I will be stepping down as 1st XI captain. It’s been a privilege leading the team, and I hope we instilled some strong fundamentals and did a few things right. Noah, I cannot wait to see how you develop as a leader in this space. You have a good heart and a serving spirit, and I trust those characteristics will serve you well. Let’s uphold the standards and goals we set as a team.”

The board and all members of VCC are immensely thankful to Sybrand for his leadership and commitment. His continued presence on the team as a player will undoubtedly inspire and positively influence the club. As we anticipate a new chapter under Noah’s captaincy, we also celebrate the enduring legacy that Sybrand leaves. His guidance and mentorship will remain a cornerstone of VCC’s future successes.
