Op een mooie Pinksterdag: VCC U13 wins over VRA U13

It was an excellent sunny day to have our second match of the season, played in Amstelveen against VRA. The team arrived in Amstelveen on-time. We were told that VRA had just 5 players and our coach Tim had an innovative suggestion, allowing VRA batsmen to bat twice with additional fielders from VCC to assist VRA. The VRA boys were visibly happy with this model, as everyone would get to bat twice  🙂 .

We won the toss and chose to bat first. Alejo opened with Carlijn for a fantastic start. We lost our first wicket in a run-out, due to a casual call for the second run and lost the wicket of Alejo (2). Next turn was Aldino, who played a stable game in the middle overs. The second wicket fell at the fifth over, when Carlijn (8) was bowled out by Aadi. Danial played a brilliant innings in the middle overs along with Aldino. We lost two quick wickets at the 14th & 15th over. Danial (20) was bowled out and Farhaan (2) was run-out by a misjudgement call. Next was Matthew, who played with the grit to push the score up. Aldino (12) was retired at the 17th over to get the other players into crease. Next in turn was Ahan (1)and was bowled by Aadi. Here comes Cedric, who played a brilliant innings along with Matthew. The duo took the match to the finishing line with couple of brilliant knocks. With Matthew (15*) and Cedric (21*), we finished the innings at a decent 141/5 in 25 overs.

VRA started with an aggressive knock, but Tom struck twice within the first 3 overs. Then came the dangerous spell from Farhaan and Matthew, after which VRA were down by 6 wickets at the 10th over. Ahan and Alejo took one wicket each and were very economical. Team VCC won the match with a comfortable margin. Again, we could have reduced the number of wides.

A few highlights:

  • the superb boundary by Carlijn and gave only 6 runs in 2.3 overs
  • blistering knock by Cedric with one boundary
  • middle over stability by Aldino
  • brilliant running between wickets by Matthew, which added 20 runs to the score-board
  • Tom repeated his previous match feat of the two outings in a row, at 1st & 3rd  over.
  • Farhaan compensated his miss with the batting by superb bowling & 2 wickets.

Overall it was a pleasing game and a cheerful second consecutive win of the season. Boys and girls had a good lunch. Thanks VRA for the hospitality we hope you bring 10 players and a scorer next time as well!
