Qui Vive – VCC 2 (10. may 2018)

Pre match analysis

After a long winter VCC 2 finally kicked off their season against Qui Vive away. The morning started with rain and due to that the outfield was wet. Therefore Abbas proposed the opposition to delay the start of the match with 30 minutes. Keeping the conditions of the outfield in mind Abbas won the toss and elected to bat first. Our young team was keen to set up a big total.

First innings

Abbas and Kalyan opened the batting. Abbas started beautifully and almost hitting boundaries at will. The peek moment was a big six on the leg side. However, after the reasonable start both Kalyan and Abbas left the field after soft dismissals. The platform was set for both Aryan and Harold to take the innings further. Aryan, the young talent, hit a big six over long off at the beginning of his innings. Harold on the other side provided the stability in the partnership. After scoring 76 runs the third wicket of Harold fell. It was now up to our young middle order to rebuild the innings. Floris de Lange fulfilled this task beautifully and ensured that Aryan could built his innings further. Unfortunately, after scoring a great 45 Aryan was run out. Floris de Lange kept going and was caught after scoring 32 runs. The tail end has some difficulties finishing off the innings. However we ended the innings with a reasonable score of 178/8. In the end maybe 20 runs short?

Second innings

As usual Sonu and Faisal kicked of with the opening spell. The tight lines and the accuracy of both bowlers ensured that Qui Vive had no room to score runs. This helped Faisal to take the first wicket. After 10 overs Qui Vive could only manage to score 24 runs. Kashif, the leg spinner, took two wickets in his second over. This shows that Kashif is a great asset to the second team. Floris van Hoogdalem bowled on the other end and surprised the batsman with his slingy action and bounce and took a wicket in his first over. Qui Vive was now 52/6 after 18 overs. You would say match in the pocket? No, their number 8 batsman had some other plans and started with some great hitting. Aryan bowled a great bal to end his innings. In the end still a great victory as Qui Vive was bowled out for 109.

Post match analysis.

Finally, a great start of the season and the first two points of the season are in the bag. We celebrated this win with a drink and discussed our approach for the rest of the season.
