RUNS (AND SPRINKLERS) FLOWING AT HAARLEM FOR VCC U10

The beautiful Rood & Wit CC was bathed in sunshine for our game in Haarlem last Sunday.   Feline kindly stepped in at the last minute to play for Willem who was ill.  Captain Annemijn won the toss and put her faith in her team, electing to bowl first on the postage stamp ground that had been marked out.  Her faith was rewarded with some fine bowling and fielding by the team.  1 wicket each for Floriaan, Annemijn, Jamieson and Thom de Oude.  The pick of the bowlers was Thomas with 3 wickets.   R&W made 74 runs for the loss of 8 wickets for net score of 50. The runs flowed early for VCC with Thom de Oude (15 runs with 3 boundaries) and Floriaan (34 runs with 4 sixes and 2 boundaries) getting us off to a great start .  Thom van Brakel (20 runs with 3 sixes) looked strong.  Feline was a little nervous going into bat but showed that like her brother Floriaan she has great hand eye co-ordination and can hit the ball a long way (11 runs with 1 six).  Thomas (6 runs with 1 boundary) was solid and formed a nice partnership with Jamieson (39 runs with 3 sixes and 4 boundaries), who was the pick of our batters.  Annemijn (8 runs) and Styn (10 runs with 2 boundaries) finished off the run feast.  VCC made 159 runs for the loss of 6 wickets for an impressive net score of 141. It wasn’t just the runs flowing during our innings, the underground sprinklers also came to life much to the delight of 16 very hot cricketers who run around  under the water to cool off for a few minutes. So 3 wins from 3 starts with a big game against VOC at home this Sunday.
