So it’s been well over a month since I arrived here at Voorburg. And I have to say it’s been a pleasure so far. Everyone has been extremely welcoming and friendly. A huge thank you to Jack and Cynthia Kingma for opening their home to me and being great hosts. Special place to be staying considering it’s right on the ground and the view is beautiful.
It is my responsibility here to Coach and Captain the 2nd team and help develop the team. This includes bringing some of the talented youngsters up into the team for the experience of senior mens cricket and prepare them for the top level, and I have to say they have showed great fight and determination so far. I am a believer in the club and want to create an atmosphere in the team that shows that. Team spirit is vital and we are on the right path. We have a good squad and I believe that we will be a successful team which mixes well with our 1st team too.
Our first game was against VOC at VOC, we won the toss and chose to bowl first. Our bowlers did a great job at restricting them to 156 all out. Atif Zaka the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5/26 off 7 overs. We went into bat confident to knock the runs but a few silly runouts and some silly shots we fell just 2 runs short. Rehan Waheed top scoring with 45.
Second game was against ACC at VCC. Toss was lost and they chose to bat on what was a very good batting surface. We restricted them to 191 all out , Conrad Greenshields 4/27 in 8 overs. We knew that they were at least 30 runs short and our openers Marius Alberts and Alyan Razzaqi had an opening stand of 62 and a good base to work from;22 and 30 respectively. Harold Vogelaar contributed with a solid 30 too. It was a close and exciting game and we chased the runs down winning by 3 wickets. A thank you to the 1st team for coming down and supporting us after their match!!
Last week’s game was against HBS at HBS. We lost the toss and the home team sent us in to bat. With a couple of 20s from myself and Marius Alberts and an outstanding innings from David Humphreys who batted with maturity beyond his age of 18. He was 77 not out and we managed a total of 197/9 after 40 overs. We defended that score with great fight and passion and bowled them out for 176. Pick of the bowlers were David Humphrey with 3/26 after 8 and Floris van Hoogdalem with 3/36 after 7.
Not a bad start to the season and plenty of room for improvement. But so far happy with the commitment and look forward to the rest of the season with a great bunch of guys. Support is always welcome and appreciated.
You forgot last saturday’s win Conrad? Still celebrating?
