VCC 2 – Qui Vive (24. June 2018)

VCC 2 – Qui Vive (24. June 2018)

Sunday 24th of June was the 8th league match for VCC 2 at home against Qui Vive 2 (4th being rained off). It was a very cold and overcast day for cricket and based on that captain Abbas won the toss and decided to bat first. Mutually decided by both the sides to use the mat wicket as the turf wicket was not in a decent shape.

VCC 2 batting first haven’t had a good start as two wickets fallen with mere 8 runs on board. Just when Aryan and Abbas started to build partnership for the 3rd wicket, leading edge of Aryan was caught on mid on with a score of 16 on board. At this point in time, VCC2 was in a spot of bother and needed a good partnership. That’s when Mudassar walked in to bat and started to build a good partnership with Abbas. It was just when VCC was moving on with good partnership Abbas lost his wicket and again VCC2 was 63 for 4. Mudassar continued with his patient innings and started building partnerships with Kalyan ( 69 run partnership ) with good contribution from Alyan and Sono and made sure they build up respectable total of 185 runs. Mudassar, star of the match was unbeaten on 75 runs.

After lunch and high on confidence, it was time for the VCC bowlers defend the chasable total.  As always, VCC bowling started with some very tight overs and while 18 runs on board, there was a chance to get the first wicket which was dropped on bowling of Sono Zaidi. Determined to take the wicket, Sono continued with his fiery spell and in the same over got his first wicket with 18 runs on board.

Faisal from the other end continued with his unplayable swing bowling and got the second wicket when 23 runs were on board. VCC2 bowlers made sure to put the brakes on the regular intervals making sure the target of 186 runs gets steeper as game progressed. Unfortunately, there were controversial NO balls bowled during the match by Atif however they did not produce much benefits for Qui Vive as Atif was quite accurate with the follow-up deliveries.

In the middle between 25 – 32 overs, the match was evenly poised as Qui Vive showed some good fight and at one point in time they had a good chance to come back. Some tight bowling in the middle and in the death over by Kashif, Alyan, Sono and Faisal made sure the target remained far from reach.

Finally, Qui Vive were bowled out in 39.2 over for 171 with VCC 2 again leading the charts in the group.

Performances of the match:

Batting – Mudassar 75, Kalyan 25, Abbas 22,
