VCC5 team: Ahsan (c),Amiet,Dinesh,Kashif,Nisaar,Saif,Samrit,Sander,Shujat,Sono,Usama.

VCC5 making a comeback in the league won the game against Ghausia at their home venue. The win also settled the score as they lost the opening game against Ghausia, also playing at the same venue. VCC5 were put to field, which they would have done themselves had they won the toss. Knowing the conditions and fast outfield at VCC field 1, VCC5 were happy to chase on a fast outfield.
Sono and Shujat started things nice and tidy supported by very tight fielding effort, Sono struck first blood in the 5th over supported by a good catch by Samrit. Both pacers had their tail up, and Shujat got his first wicket of the match in the 10th over when Sono took a tough one at slips in second attempt. Ghausia were 38/2 by end of 10th over. VCC5 had the breaks on Ghausia with brilliant fielding and some tight bowling. Kashif spun his magic and trapped the batsmen at cow corner where Shujat took a good catch to dismiss third wicket. VCC5 spinners also didn’t disappoint and Ghausia’s batsmen were looking clueless to all variations spinners had to offer. There was few missed opportunities during Saif’s bowling but he himself make up for it by taking good catch off Usama’s bowling. Ghausia were 127/4 at end of 27th over. It was at this point Ghausia was starting to put some intent and changed their approach, Kashif took another one in 30th over when Sono took a good catch after dropping one on previous ball.
The last 8 overs were forgettable for VCC5 as they leaked to many runs, though Nisaar and Shujat managed to pick a wicket each but Z Mahmood from Ghausia cruised to a quick a 66 and Ghausia ended their innings at 230/7. This was 30 runs more than VCC5 would have expected but certainly they believed they could chase this on their home ground. Shujat and Amiet gave a solid start with some beautiful and classy boundaries. Amiet unfortunately fell after getting a good start. And Ali brother’s were now batting together, the duo gave Ghausia some scare and were going at 8 runs/over at one stage. Hitting some huge sixes and elegant cover drives the brothers were looking threatening, they put a partnership 54 but Nisaar fell off on 27 caught at the long-on boundary. But the damage was already done and the pressure of run rate never was an issue thanks to some good power hitting. Samrit followed in next and gave good support to Shujat who was looking good at the other end. They weaved a partnership of 52 before Samrit fell at score of 21. Sander coming out to bat had similar intentions as to put pressure on Ghausia bowling. The boundaries were drying up so Shujat and Sander put pressure by rotating strikes and converting one’s to two’s. Thanks to athletic running and good calling by Sander, VCC5 had another 50+ partnership. Sander got out trying to hit a big one but not before he had helped team reach near the winning score VCC5 were 195/4 when the skipper walked in to finish the job. Shujat was unstoppable at the other end some big sixes, a few elegant drives and few innovative shots on the spinners, he had a armory of shots to annoy the opposition. He had his first 100 of the season chasing a decent score and was not out at 102. VCC5 finished the game in 33.5 overs and scored some valuable points they were looking for to get back in the league. Shujat was awarded the man of the match for his all round effort.
