VCC U-15 registers first win

July 11, 2020

It was sunny Saturday morning at VCC and the team was ready to bounce back from the loss of Monday against VOC. The opponent this time was Olympia coming all the way from Gouda. Olympia won the toss and put VCC into bat first. From VCC the openers were Farhaan and Varun. Farhaan was in attacking mood right from the start whereas Varun was supporting well from other end. After 5 overs, the score was 30 for no loss. The runs were bit restricted because of good field placement and to some extent slow outfield. VCC reached 50 in 10 overs and then Varun departed after very first ball of the eleventh over – got clean bowled. The duo gave VCC a good start and at No. 3 Aldino went out to bat with Farhaan who was in good touch and got his fifty soon. Aldino was playing some nice looking shots till he got clean bowled. Carlijn came in the middle and soon after Farhaan retired for unbeaten 60. Carlijn made useful 14 runs and unfortunately got run out due to misunderstanding. Miraj and Cedric were holding the fort in the lower middle order until a fantastic catch taken by the leg slip to send Cedric back. However Miraj was on a roll by hitting a hattrick of boundaries. Shirsak joined Miraj at the end and the total score of VCC stood 186 for 6 where some good running between the wickets was key contributor. Miraj remained 33 not out.

After a short innings break captain Cedric gave the ball to Alejo and Tom for the opening spell. Olympia made a solid start with 44 of 6 overs. Then the ball had been given to Farhaan and he continued his good form by taking the first wicket and broke the partnership. The very next over Shirsak got another wicket for his team and the score became 50 for 2 after eight overs. The opposition started to build another partnership when Varun came in and spoiled their plan after getting the opener of Olympia stumped. It was a great game sense by Cedric as a keeper. Farhaan also joined the party and took two quick wickets to restrict the score at 90 for 5 at the end of 15 overs. The opponent had two wickets in hand so they started to counter-attack and got 23 of an over! It was a flurry of runs but that did not last long when Farhaan got the last two wickets in one over again and finished the match in style after getting a 5 wickets haul. It was a great game of cricket by both sides where at the end VCC had a comprehensive 43 runs victory and stamped the first win of the season.
