VCC U10 beats Rood en Wit

30 juni 2012 – Perfect blue skies and sunshine matched the beaming smiles of the VCCU10’s and their parents as they arrived for their game at home against Rood & Wit. After spending considerable time in the car with match captain Jamieson explaining the virtues of winning the toss and batting first, he duly won the toss… and decided to bowl. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink. We were 1 player down in the field which and things got worse later when Julius pulled a muscle and found it difficult to run, but he showed his courage staying on the field as our wicket keeper. We bowled and fielded well against a much improved Rood & Wit team, who defended their stumps, ran well between the wickets and dispatched the odd bad ball to the boundary. Thomas and Floriaan took 1 wicket each. Annemijn was the pick of our bowlers, taking 2 wickets including a nice caught and bowled and just missing her hat trick when the ball bounced off the batter and over middle stump. A highlight of our fielding was 3 nice outfield catches by Thom, Julius and Annemijn. Rood & Wit scored 82 runs for the loss of 4 wickets for a net total of 70. We started the run chase with Floriaan (13 runs including 2 boundaries) and Oscar (5 runs) and with 2 run outs things were looking a bit shaky. Jamieson then played a Captain’s knock (29 including 1 six and 3 boundaries) and shared a great partnership with Thomas (17 runs) to propel us towards the target. Thom played a great innings (20 runs with 2 boundaries)and was supported by a very smart Annemijn (11 runs), who protected her stumps and knocked the ball into the gaps for singles to ensure the win. VCC scored 96 runs for the loss of 5 wickets for net total of 81. A tight game played in great spirit and an important win that keeps us alive (I think) in the title race http://www.kncb.nl/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=967&Itemid=453 . Next week is our final game. Thanks to Igor for scoring and to mums and dads for your continued support. Coach Mark
