VCC U12 EBAB beats Ajax!

uitsnede alfie Alfie: 16 runs and three run outs! 14 juli 2013 – I can’t let Saturday’s exciting fixture pass without writing a few words to congratulate the U12 EBAB on their hard fought victory. Going in first, the team just failed to meet the coach’s target of 100 runs – Alfie (16) and Josh (18) set the tone with an opening stand of 29 from the first four overs, and with contributions from Ivo (30 retired) and Michael (18 not out), it was a much better batting performance this week, though there were still too many ‘slow’ overs in the later part of the innings.  Our score was 96, for a net total of 78. The bowling and fielding was also much improved, with wickets being shared amongst the bowlers and a special mention for Alfie whose deadly throwing executed three run outs !  With wickets falling steadily through the innings, our opponents ended up sending in their two best batsmen twice, and with Sohail hitting 13 off Ivo’s last over, a jubilant Ajax thought they had won the game on the very last ball. However, when we checked the rules, it turned out that a batsman who has scored 30 retired is NOT allowed to come back in a second time, and so Sohail’s heroics were in vain (he scored over half his team’s runs) – and Voorburg were the winners. One coaching tip, where we struggled in the last few overs – when you’re fielding on the boundary to stop fours, it is really important (1) that you field right on the boundary, and (2) that you do stop the ball, with a dive if necessary, if it comes near you. Well done boys, Andrew
