After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Cedric and Alejo opened the batting for VCC. Both players started very well and added 24 runs for VCC in just first 3 overs. However, it didn’t go too long and VCC lost its first 2 wickets in 4th and 5th over. Cedric was given LBW out in 4th over and Alejo was clean bowled at the score 35 runs. Farhaan joined Danial on the field but partnership didn’t went too far and Danial got out at the total score of 61 runs in 8th over. Tom and Farhaan stabilize the VCC batting and went on scoring some great boundaries and beautiful running between the wickets. They added a partnership of about 90 runs to the VCC score board with total score of 155 runs in 20 overs. Both of them retired after their individual score of 50+ runs each and played great innings. Rest of the batsman couldn’t add too much to the scoreboard and VCC curtailed its batting with a score of 159 runs in 23 overs.
Tom and Alejo opened the bowling spell for VCC and contained Kampong players on run rate, however they couldn’t get those required early wickets in the match unfortunately. Kampong made just 24 runs in first 5 overs. Then came the sixth over where Carlijn got first wicket for VCC. The pace of visiting team went even lower and VCC got its second wicket at the score 32 runs in 8th over also by Carlijn. After losing their second wicket Kampong played at a very slow pace and reached their 100 run milestone only in 18th over. However, not getting any wickets placed the pressure on the bowlers and there were quite few wide balls and no balls delivered that contributed to visiting team scoreboard. Kampong with 6 wicket at hand started hitting the ball hard. They scored quite a few boundaries and couple of sixes in last 5 overs and reached the target with 8 balls still remaining and won the match.
In general, VCC team spirit was great on the field and it was wonderful to see the team supporting each other when they saw they might loose and pressure was building up.
Awesome team play!
