VCC U15 takes on Bloemendaal

Coming home with the Flamingo Indoor Tournament Win, our U15 boys were ready to start their outdoor season. They would kick it off against Bloemendaal on the 12th of May. Bloemendaal won the toss and chose to bat first and our boys were all warmed up and ready to go.

The opening bowlers bowled well together. Hasnain (0-10) keeping things tight from one end and Nirav (1-30) being a bit more aggressive. The first change brought the first wicket and came in the form of a good catch at the boundary by Nirav.  More decent bowling followed from Tanveer (1-13) and Ahan (1-17). Jacobus (1-11) and Ben (0-22) who were making their debut for VCC, bowled exceptionally well to help the team’s cause. Sachall picked up a wicket and Haris’s quick 3 wickets in the end put VCC into the driving seat going into the second innings with a ‘gettable’ target of 143 in 30 overs.

The openers gave us a good start and saw off the new ball, but a run out meant Ben was replaced by Tanveer. Tanveer had a bit of a slow start, unusual for him, but it was the right thing to do. Runs were flowing from the other end, so VCC stayed right on track. Tanveer then started to fire with a couple of massive strikes into the wilderness. Nirav carried on to his fifty and looked good before he fell victim to another (unlucky) run out. Hasnain joined Tanveer and they finished things off.

Exceptional batting from Nirav (59) and Tanveer (35 no) along with Haris’s 3 wickets (3 – 21) ensured a safe first win for VCC in 21 overs. After shaking hands it was time for a well deserved late lunch (which was very good, thanks Bloemendaal!).

Our U15 boys will be back coming Sunday (19th May) to show their skills in their first home game against Kampong.
