VCC Zomi started the season with a loss to cricket club Groenendaal on Sunday, 15th May 2016. With almost 60% of new team members, this first match was regarded as a practise match where players came to know each other, including their strengths and weaknesses.
After winning the toss, VCC zomi captain Colin decided to bat first. Unluckily soon after, it started to pour down quite significantly. As the pitch was not covered and got wet, it was hard for the opening batsmen to understand the bowling and the pair collapsed within 10 runs on the scoreboard. The ball initially kept low. With the sun coming up again and the pitch relatively dry, the team managed to score 85, all out in around 23 overs. The batting line up failed to meet expectations on the day.
In the second half, the first seven overs bowled by the VCC team were fantastic, where the team conceded only about less than 20 runs. The opening batsmen pair for the Groenendaal team stayed on the crease for more than 10 overs. There was finally a breakthrough in the 11th over but the team till that point had already reached 50+ score. Around the 21st over, the match was over with Groenendaal winning it comprehensively.
There is a lot to improve for the VCC zoom team for the rest of the tournament. With the sloppy fielding, unimpressive batting and average bowling, this match was lost.
The team looks forward to the next matched with a new flare and zeal. The team found its chemistry after the first match and hopefully the remaining matches of the season would all result in wins.
Good luck VCC zomi team!
