We had great weather and a lovely start to the outdoor season last Sunday (April 10). For nearly all of the children it was their first ‘proper’ game and you could tell they were excited. This is a good thing. The 2 games went well although we were a little outclassed by the boys from VOC – they were definitely a little older and a well-coached unit. It is probably also the case that some of our young cricketers are not quite ready for that level of cricket and may be better off playing ‘tip & run’ games plus working on their skills some more. Probably our biggest challenge was bowling – this is something we will continue to work on at practice.

Prachtig weer op 17 april, en we mochten op het hoofdveld! Voor een aantal spelers was dit de eerste wedstrijd met harde bal. Uit is uit, en dat is wennen! Verder kun je stumped gaan en LBW. Wides worden niet overgebowld maar leveren wel twee punten op. Captain Julia was zo sportief de toss te verliezen en we mochten eerst batten. Alyan en Jan batten slim en callden en runden goed. Wouter was heel geconcentreerd, Esther raakte ze lekker en Babette had pech met de bowling. Mooie tikken van Freddie Price en Richard Hard. Uiteindelijk maakten we er iets van 119 in 20 overs, een heel mooi totaal. We gingen drie keer run out en daar gaan we aan werken.
Het bowlen en fielden was super. Prachtige vangen van Esther (op bowlen van Babette) en Alyan, en een beauty van Jan op eigen bowlen. Direct hit run out van Babette. Superstops van Freddie, Julia en Wouter. Julia twee wickets! Wickets dekken ging goed. Quick kwam tot 99. Een prima overwinning.

Brilliant c&b by Jan Schuler seals win over Quick U11
It was great weather on April 17 and we could use the main ground. For a number of players this was the first match with a hard cricket ball. Out is out, you can be stumped or LBW, and wides are not re-bowled (2 penalty runs each). Captain Julia was a good sport and lost the toss which allowed Quick to field first. Alyan and Jan batted intelligently and called and ran well. Wouter was very concentrated, Esther hit ‘em well, Babette was unlucky. Aggressive hitting form Richard Hard and Freddie Price resulted in our 119, a good score.
Our bowling and fielding was superb. Great catches by Esther and Alyan, and a brilliant catch by Jan off his own bowling. Direct hit run out by Babette. Superstops by Freddie, Julia and Wouter. Julia took two wickets! Quick finished on 99. A solid victory.
