We mourn the loss of a passionate cricketer. Last Friday on August 19, the inevitable happened. After battling a serious disease for a couple of years already- it is with a sad heart that we need to say goodbye to Yasir Hamid, who was only 27 years old. Yasir was a rising star in VCC 1 in the 2015 season, only 20 years old. Suddenly, VCC had a strong fastbowler in its line-up. He was a regular in VCC 1 till approximatly 2019, after which he preferred to play with friends in the more recreational teams in VCC. In these years Yasir scores 735 runs and took 125 wickets for only 2109 runs (an economy rate of 3.36).
Yasir was a great friend, brother and cricketer. We met many years ago and were friends quickly- we shared the same passion of cricket. I don’t know anyone who had more love for the game of cricket. With his unique character he influenced many around us- on and off the field.
Without him it will be a tough road ahead but we will do what he taught us- to be strong and keep fighting- no matter what. He will always be remembered and have a place in our hearts.
